case management

Often and understandably, everyday routines and regular goings-on of life are put on hold while an individual is overcoming a substance use disorder. This may cause undue stress on those who have chosen to seek treatment, which is why each guest at Royal Life Centers is assigned a case manager.

Our compassionate, experienced case managers— who are part of our holistic, individualized approach to treatment,— work closely with guests to help them to navigate and resolve legal, social, and other issues. This guidance is instrumental in helping guests re-learn the life skills necessary for a seamless transition back into society and long-term health and recovery.

Case Management Services

A case manager might help a guest with making medical appointments and filling prescriptions, applying for government assistance, or coordinating job interviews and may also serve as guest advocate in the legal system. Case management is about making services fit guests, rather than the other way around, and is particularly important in the area of addiction, as those with a substance use disorder must coordinate their outpatient/continuing care, maintain prescription medications, and figure out transportation to and from therapy, group, and 12 step meetings.

Case Managers

Our case managers understand addiction and screen and assess each guest to determine their strengths, needs, and goals. The next steps in case management involve brokering for resources to match guest needs with community services, developing case plans, and determining benefits eligibility.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, four models from the mental health disorders field have been adapted for use in the field of substance use disorders. SAMHSA identifies a comprehensive addiction treatment model to be the most beneficial for those struggling with a substance use disorder, which is why Royal Life Centers adopts a comprehensive treatment approach.

At Royal Life Centers, we have structured our case management program around the clinical/rehabilitation model, dependent on our mission and structure. This broad-based model takes a comprehensive look at goal-planning and a flexible approach to resource referral, and places an emphasis on family- and self-support through therapeutic activities, such as therapy and skills-teaching.

What’s the difference between case management and therapy?

Both our case management and therapy programs are designed to accommodate the individual guest and their unique needs, and though our case managers and therapists are focused first and foremost on providing the highest level of specialized care to our guests— their job functions do differ. Case management is designed to make community services and resources fit guests and is focused on resource acquisition, while therapy focuses on facilitating change in the personal lives of guests.
